Boti Falls (2026): Everything You Need to Know Before You Visit

Two waterfalls. One river. A legend that says when they meet, a rainbow forms, and the falls are mating. Beneath your feet, concrete steps. At the bottom, a cascade of water thundering into a pool you can actually swim in. Boti Falls is the Eastern Region's best-kept secret, and once you've made the descent, you'll understand why people keep coming back.

Ghana's Most Romantic Waterfall

This is one of the most immersive natural experiences in Ghana. The falls are reached via a descent of 250 concrete steps; manageable going down, a genuine workout coming back up. Wear shoes you can trust on wet surfaces. At the base, the falls open up into a sandy area and a natural pool that is generally safe to swim in. During the rainy season, when both falls are running at full flow, you are surrounded by cascading water and cool mist.

Canoe rides are available to ferry you closer to the falls from the shore for a small additional fee. The surrounding rainforest has enormous trees, ancient caves, and the kind of stillness that makes you forget Accra exists.

A 45-minute guided hike through the surrounding rainforest takes you to the Umbrella Rock, a remarkable natural rock formation shaped like a giant umbrella, with sweeping views over the forest. The Three-Headed Palm Tree, a unique botanical curiosity sacred to the local Krobo community, is another highlight of the guided route.

Best Time to Visit

The falls are most spectacular during the rainy season from June to August, when both waterfalls run at full strength and the mating ceremony and rainbow are most likely to occur. During the dry season, the flow reduces — sometimes only one waterfall runs — but the water is clearer and the hike is drier and easier. Visiting just after the rainy season, around September to October, often gives the best of both: strong water flow and manageable trails.

Before You Visit

Leave Accra early. The drive is 2 to 2.5 hours and the best experience is early morning before the heat builds and crowds arrive.

Wear the right shoes. The 250 steps get slippery near the base of the falls, and the forest trail to Umbrella Rock is rocky and uneven in places. Closed-toe shoes with grip are essential.

Bring a change of clothes. If you plan to swim in the pool or get close to the falls, you will get wet. Pack accordingly.

Pack snacks and water. There is a small cafe onsite and vendors selling fresh cocoa and drinks, but food options are limited. Bring what you need.

Combine with Aburi on the same day. Boti Falls and Aburi Botanical Gardens are both in the Eastern Region and make a natural full-day pairing. The Tetteh Quarshie Cocoa Farm is also nearby.

Getting There from Accra

Boti Falls is located approximately 90km from Accra, with a drive time of around 2 to 2.5 hours.

Public transport (Trotros) run to Koforidua from Madina, from where you'd need to connect onward to Huhunya, adding time and complications. The last stretch of the road to the falls is not always clearly signposted, making a self-arranged journey more difficult than it sounds.

Ride-hailing apps (Uber, Bolt and Yango) are not practical here. Boti is remote enough that a return Uber from the falls is simply not a reliable option, you'd be stranded at the base of a waterfall with no signal and no driver nearby.

The smart choice is a chauffeur-driven vehicle from Caradise Ghana. Your driver knows the route, handles the final stretch through Huhunya, waits while you explore, and takes you onward to any other Eastern Region stops before bringing you home. Fuel fully included, Wi-Fi onboard, air-conditioning throughout.
